Proteus is a cross-genre roleplaying game set on an alien world. This planet is called Ad Tair and is home to the last remaining Humans in the galaxy. Here humanity works to make a new home and avoid the mistakes of the past. But Humans are not alone on this world; other sentient species live on this planet as well. Humans, Seitarin, Tra’ Quil, Raagon, and Melkar are slowly learning to work together to survive and help one another. The mysterious Ehlreth and the war-like Phylans also share Ad Tair, though their motives are not readily apparent. Many people, both Human and alien alike, have developed powerful psionic abilities, enabling them to accomplish things using only the power of their minds. New technologies have begun to appear, though much remains to be rebuilt after the Great Cataclysm, the day when Human arrogance came perilously close to wiping out the last remnants of their civilization. The Proteus roleplaying game shares aspects with many different roleplaying genres. Most features of Proteus could be described as science fiction or post-apocalyptic in nature. The game is set on another planet and includes many alien life forms while most of the population is scattered and struggling to survive in the aftermath of a terrible disaster. The game world also shares similarities with the cyberpunk genre, as the Human Energy Commission and Singularity Corporation seek to control more and more aspects of everyday life. Finally, the game possesses a number of fantasy characteristics. Swords and other melee weapons have enjoyed a resurgence in use since the Great Cataclysm, and the psionic abilities of many characters seem like magic to those that do not understand them. Proteus was designed so that it could be enjoyed by experienced gamers as well as those that may be new to the idea of roleplaying games. |
